Frequently Asked Questions
About Chethi Batik
Chethi Batik is a premium Sri Lankan brand that blends traditional heritage with contemporary fashion. Unlike mass-produced prints, every single item in our collection is a unique piece of art. We pride ourselves on using high-quality fabrics and traditional wax-resist dyeing techniques to create timeless apparel.
Yes, absolutely. Every garment goes through a rigorous manual process: from the initial hand-drawn design and wax application (batik charting) to the multi-stage dyeing and boiling. Because each piece is handmade, no two items are exactly identical, giving you a truly exclusive wardrobe.
Care & Maintenance
To preserve the artistry, follow these steps: First wash, soak in cold water with salt for 5-10 mins. Subsequent washes, hand wash using mild liquid detergent. Never use bleach or washing machine. Hang to dry in a shaded area.
Always iron on the reverse side (the inside of the garment) using a medium heat setting. For Silk and Super Voile, we recommend using the "Silk" or "Delicate" setting.
Custom Orders & Sizing
Yes, we do! You can request custom sizing for most of our designs. If you have a specific color theme or pattern in mind (especially for weddings or corporate events), please contact our team via the "Custom Order" section.
Certainly. We specialize in coordinated batik sets for wedding parties (groomΓÇÖs attendants, bridesmaids' sarees) and corporate uniforms. For bulk orders, we recommend contacting us at least 6ΓÇô8 weeks in advance.
Please refer to our Size Guide available on each product page. Since we use non-stretch natural fabrics like Super Cotton and 100% Cotton, we generally recommend choosing a size that allows for a comfortable, relaxed fit.
Our Premium Fabrics
We use five specialized fabric types:
- 100% Cotton: Breathable and natural.
- Voile: Lightweight and semi-sheer.
- Super Voile: Higher thread count, smoother finish.
- Super Cotton: Premium, high-density cotton for formal wear.
- Silk: The epitome of luxury for special occasions.

We accept Credit/Debit Cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex), Bank Transfers, Cash on Delivery (local), and Installment plans via Mintpay or Koko.

Sustainability & Ethics
Sustainability is at our core. By using natural fibers and supporting local artisans, we promote a "slow fashion" model. We are also committed to responsible waste management.
Chethi Batik provides fair wages and stable employment to traditional artisans in Sri Lankan villages, contributing to the preservation of a 100-year-old craft.
The Batik Craftsmanship
The "crackle" effect is the hallmark of authentic batik. It occurs when the wax is intentionally cracked during the dyeing process, allowing the dye to seep through in fine lines. This proves that the item was made using the traditional wax-resist method and is not a machine print.
We use high-grade dyes specifically suited for our fabric types. While all-natural fabrics may experience very slight softening of color over many years, following our care instructions will keep your Chethi Batik piece vibrant for a long time.
